President Bush announced this morning that the federal government will dip into the Troubled Assets Relief Program to grant Detroit’s three car makers an immediate $13.4 billion in loans.
The word is out that Ogilvy’s annual year-end staff meeting has been canceled. Traditionally this meeting is held just prior to Christmas in some fancy off-site digs. Staffers are first debriefed on the past year, then briefed opportunities in the coming year and then finally given their call to arms by David.
The Wall Street Journal wrote today that Chrysler may still be up for a merger with GM. In fact, Chrysler’s majority owner, Cerberus Capital Management, recently approached GM about just that according to WSJ.

NEW YORK Omnicom’s BBDO today said it has cut 189 staffers across its N.A. operations. At the same time, Omnicom confirmed cuts will be made across its broader operations worldwide. BBDO’s recent loss of domestic Pepsi business was a key driver in that shop’s layoffs.

Really? Did they consider any other agencies? I know that everyone loved them to pieces in 2005 but I also thought everyone knew that ship has sailed. They are just an ad agency, they have done some amazing work for which they have received adequate kudos. Do they really need to be rewarded for that Jerry Seinfeld / Bill Gates abortion?

Most everyone that I know has a love / hate relationship with local TV spots. On one hand, they are frequently brilliant shows of low-budget ingenuity starring endearing entrepreneurs with no talent but plenty of enthusiasm. On the other, they get so played out you find yourself wanting to commit hari kari, especially near the end of the year.
